I just put a pool in and have been scared that the kids will go out to the pool with out us so I bought one of these and it works great we sleep better at night knowing that they can't get to the pool with out us. On a scale of 1-10 it gets a BIG 10

I am a female living alone in an apartment in a very nice area. I have been having some keyed entries into my rented apartment for a while. One of the scariest was when I was home sitting on my couch about 15 feet from the door at about 4pm in the afternoon on a Friday. Lucky I had a bolting device on the inside of the door that catches the lock if it is opened from the outside. I was so petrified I saw the two deadbolts opening and then the door pushing open and the lock catching it about an inch from the door. I was sitting on my couch afraid that they would kick down the door(I heard 2 to 3 men on the other side of the door, saying "someone is home" and running away leaving the door unlocked). I called the police who suggested a locksmith to secure the door while I am at home. The locksmith suggested Door Guardian. He told me that no one can open the door when I am home with it unless they kick it down (and still it is hard and then they would be heard by neighbors with evidence of Break and Entry). I still didn't believe it because of my experience. Due to my disbelief I further called a home security specialist who confirmed the same to me also about the Door Guardian. I believe it now because the security specialist was not trying to sell me it and told me to go and purchase and install it on my own. I will install it now and look forward to feeling more relaxed while at home.

I work for an ADT authorized dealer in CA and have to add that many burglaries happen through doors, mainly the front and side garage door. I was introduced to this product by a customer of mine whom has Door Guardians on 3 doors: front, inside garage and outside garage door. Well, he was burglarized and they did attempt to kick in his side garage door and the door guardian prevented them from succeeding. He did have to replace the door and they still ended up breaking through a window and getting in but that is where now the security system window, motion and glass break sensors come into play. This is a very solid product and I have bought 4 of them for myself including one for the master bedroom door. I know many burglaries and home invasions happen out there and for door security the Door Guardian is very effective. I recommend door guardian to all my customers if I remember too, lol.

I work at a home improvement store in Canada, in the windows and doors department, your products are in the hardware deptartment but I very often take customers over there to show them the door guardians. I especially like the patio door unit, and the keeper is a brilliant addition to the product.

I recently ordered three (3)Door Guardian locks for our front door and two separate garage doors. I was concerned at first that the locks would not mesh nicely with our upgraded door casing but the hardware ended up being perfectly compatible. Yes, I did need to use a chisel to install two (2) of the three (3) locks, but the installation was very straight forward and not difficult. To further enhance the appearance of the installation, I used a "Dremel" tool with the sanding attachment and the installation ended up looking very professional. The Door Guardian is very similar to the very inexpensive "latch locks" that were so popular in the 60's/70's and which were used in the motel industry, but this version is very beefy and well made with a spring mechanism that works very nicely and very smooth. You have your choice of several different finishes which should match up nicely to existing door hardware. The installation time per each lock, ended up being about 15-25 minutes on average. Though we just installed the Door Guardians, the locks provide solid safety for keeping our small two (2) year old from access to the door opening and also adds some really beefy security to your doorway entry points. I would suggest going directly through the manufacturer for your purchase as most distribution sources seem to add an additional $9.00-$10.00 per lock. We initially tried the typical plastic two (2) piece door knob covers but our little boy was able to defeat every version that we purchased. Do yourself a favor and purchase the Door Guardian before attempting to use the plastic door knob covers......these locks work extremely well, look good, are easy to install and can be used for years to come. I would imagine that when our todler is a little older, we will simply keep the locks in place for an added security measure.

Ok Its Great to see what everyone thinks of the Door Gaurdian. It seems as if most of the negative comments are from people thats already given up on their personal security. I belive that the Door gaurdian is one of many things that can be used to keep burglars out. The purpose is to make them go to the neihbors home after trying mine and failing. I love the product and plan to buy many more.

I purchased two of these and I am very pleased. They are much easier to install than a deadbolt, and we have the added security of our little ones not being able to unlock and open the exterior doors. We purchased them at ACE Hardware - very reasonably priced.

It seems like everyone is talking about forced entry when this website is clearly promoting eliminating the possibility of young child or elders from being able to get outside by unlocking doors and/or patios. As a mother, my concern are my children unlocking doors and exiting at a moment's notice. Security -- that is why I have ADT, deadbolt locks, and knobs with locks. Come on...I hope you don't think that the Doorguardian is going to prevent someone from breaking into your home. It might slow them down.

I have installed many of these, the first was on a home where the three year old liked to wander. Their neighbors called and wanted some also. Have never had a negative comment on the many I have installed. The great thing about it is that there isn't any screws to install into the door (and mar the surface), and has a rubber strip on the edge that sits on the door in the closed position to prevent damage to the door should the intruder get really rough. It's great for the kids because it takes some finger dexterity, a larger hand and some coordination that even the most precoscious child does not have. Because those three inch screws are not on the external faces of the door or frame, the entire frame (at least on the opening side) would have to tear apart before the door would open. Let's face it: If the intruders wanted to work hard for their money, they'd HAVE A JOB!!

In terms of door security, alarm systems (apart from the window stickers) only work after the door has been opened. And if the alarm hasn't been turned on... well, these locks easily provide more security when you are at home. So on our doors we have two Integs (an earlier, out of production, lock of this kind.) However, I regularly recommend the Door Guardian to friends and will certainly install them on other doors in the future. I'm at this site today because I just gave two to a friend as a house warming gift and thought I'd look it up. Anyway, we are able to use our locks 24/7 as we usually come and go by the attached garage leaving the front and back doors secured from the inside. (Too many people just don't realize how a relatively minor kick can easily delaminate the new metal wrapped/wood stile doors or cause the door frame at the bolt to splinter and fail.) So I'm confident these locks can really help defeat someone kicking at the bottom of a door allowing it to flex rather than fail.
